do I measure my opening? Your opening is defined by the 2 vertical
studs (width A) and the finished
floor to header (height B). The
best way to measure it is to remove the 3 pieces of interior trim that
surround your entry. Most interior trim is fastened by finishing nails and
can be easily pried loose. This will expose the studs and header. From the
inside, measure A and B and the width of the studs (depth).
DEPTH: Common frame (stud) material is 2x4 which actually measures 3-1/2" and 2 x 6 which actually measures 5-1/2".
